Suspect Charged With Shoplifting $2,800 Diamond Ring

A Johnston County man is facing charges after Smithfield Police said he shoplifting a $2,800 ring from a local jewelry store.

Police allege 63 year-old Clarence Joseph Todd of Traders Mill Run, Kenly went to Kay Jewelers on Outlet Center Drive on April 16th. While looking at rings with an unnamed female, Todd allegedly placed a diamond ring in his pocket then left the store without paying.

Todd was identified as the suspect and arrested the following day by a Johnston County sheriff’s deputy on a Smithfield Police warrant charging him with felony larceny.    The stolen ring was not recovered.
