A Raleigh man is facing charged in Johnston County after reportedly being caught Thursday afternoon stealing decorations out of the yards of two Brogden community homes east of Smithfield.
Johnston County deputies said a pinwheel valued at $15 was taken from the front yard of a home on Bonnie Avenue. Later, a resident on Eli Olive Road reported a small yard sign valued at $30 was taken.
Deputies located a pickup truck the suspect was operating in the area. The truck had been stolen from a home in Wake County after the owner died a week earlier.
David Stevens Collins, 68, was charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle and two misdemeanor counts of larceny. He was given a $21,000 bond on the three offenses.
The truck was seized. The yard ornaments were returned to the victims.
