Suspect Drops Cell Phone At Crime Scene

Phone Contained Photos Of Stolen Items

One person is in custody and warrants have been obtained for a second individual accused of stealing items from a Four Oaks residence while the homeowner was in the hospital.

Between Jan. 18th and Jan. 29th someone broke into the victim’s home on Spring Lake Road, off Highway 96 South, taking $1,703 in property. A utility trailer, air compressor, and tools were among the items stolen. The suspects even removed tin from a barn.

It appears the suspects made more than one trip to the location, knowing the victim was in the hospital and unable to check on his property.

During one of the trips, one of the two suspects allegedly dropped their cell phone. When the phone was searched by sheriff’s detectives they found photos of the stolen property the suspects had taken and placed for sale on a social media site.

Randolph “Randy” Sommers Mason Jr., 57, of Thompson Road, Four Oaks was charged March 3rd with felony larceny and felony conspiracy.   Detectives tell WTSB a second arrest is pending.
