Suspect Extradited From California On 2017 Theft Warrants

A former Benson man now living in California has been extradited back to Johnston County to stand trial on a number of charges.

On June 8, 2017, management at Wendy’s at 12300 Highway 210 Benson reported that an employee stole $139 in cash while at work.

On June 18, 2017 two break-ins were reported near Benson. In the first incident on Mills Pond Road, a GPS unit valued at $170 was stolen from a vehicle.  Later, deputies were called to investigate a break-in on Tall Pine Drive where $8,200 worth of  tools were stolen.  Authorities later recovered $1,000 of the missing items.

Sheriff’s detectives developed 22 year-old James Christian Dawson, formerly of S. Pleasant Coates Road, as a suspect however he could not be located.  Warrants were obtained for his arrest.  He was recently located in California and arrested. On Monday, he was returned to Johnston County and formerly charged with the three crimes.

Dawson’s charges include breaking and entering, larceny, and larceny by an employee. He was held under a $101,000 bond.
