NEWTON GROVE – A Johnston County man was arrested on four felony charges in connection with a gun theft.
Jonathan Dwayne Barefoot, age 34, of Godwin Lake Road, Dunn (a Johnston County address) was arrested April 15 and charged with breaking and entering, larceny, larceny of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

On April 2, a resident on Harper House Road in the Bentonville community reported a Remington shotgun had been stolen from their home. The gun was valued at $400.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office said Barefoot was an acquaintance of the victim and sometime later returned the stolen gun to the victim. Barefoot allegedly admitted to investigating officers he stole the firearm.
Barefoot was given a $40,000 secured bond.
It is a beautiful thing to have a conscience. Thankfully, it appears Mr Barefoot’s conscience spoke to him.
What a nice guy, a real sweetheart.
