An arrest has been made in a stabbing and robbery last month that seriously injured a Johnston County man. The suspect allegedly committed the crime to travel to Arkansas to see his dying mother.
On October 3rd, deputies responded to a robbery and stabbing on Ayden Lane off Rock Pillar Road south of Clayton. The 60 year-old victim said the suspect hit him in the head with a hammer then slashed his neck with a box cutter before stealing his money and Honda Accord.
The suspect, identified as Dereck Rondell Johnson, 47, of Little Rock, Arkansas knew the victim.
Johnston County Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell said investigators believe Johnson committed the crime to obtain money and a vehicle to travel to Arkansas to see his dying mother.
Johnson was arrested in Arkansas and extradited back to Johnston County to stand trial.
He is being held under a $220,000 bond charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, robbery and larceny of a motor vehicle.
