Suspected Impaired Driver Strikes Parked Vehicles, Police Say

SMITHFIELD – A 32 year-old man was charged with DWI after he reportedly struck two parked vehicles in Downtown Smithfield. Police responded to the three vehicle accident at 7:39pm Wednesday, July 27 on Market Street (US 70) between Second and Third Street.

According to an accident report, Alfredo Corral of Yellow Stone Lane, Smithfield was operating a 2022 Toyota passenger car eastbound on Market Street when he drifted out of his travel lane to the right colliding a parked 2017 Hyundai SUV which was pushed forward into a parked 2018 Nissan passenger car. Both parked vehicles were unoccupied.

Corral was charged with driving while impaired and failure to maintain lane control. A blood sample was taken from the 32 year-old driver.

No injuries were reported.

Damage to the Toyota was placed at $1,500. Damage to the Hyundai and Nissan was estimated at $1,000 to each vehicle.
