Suspects Broke Into Car At Johnston County Wedding

GARNER – More than two years after a car break-in was reported at a Johnston County wedding, the first of two arrests in the case has been made.  On October 18, 2018, a Maryland couple was attending a wedding on Cleveland Road near Highway 42.  While their vehicle was left unattended during the ceremony, someone broke a passenger window to gain entry stealing a handbag, perfume and credit cards.

Johnston County sheriff’s detectives were able to identify the suspects after they were allegedly caught on surveillance cameras using one of the stolen credit cards hours later.  Investigators said the two suspects fled to Florida after they found out they were wanted.  Recently one of the suspects returned to the area.

On January 9, 2021, Araceli Giselle Rodriguez, 24, of Wendell was arrested during a traffic stop near Clayton.  She was charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle, obtaining property by false pretense and felony conspiracy.  She was held on a $100,000 bond.

Sheriff’s deputies are still searching for the second suspect. Their name was not released.
