Suspects Charged With Robbing Undercover Police Informant

Undercover JCSO, ATF Investigation Nets Two Arrests

A joint undercover investigation by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and federal ATF agents has resulted in the arrests of two suspects.  It happened March 13th on Highway 70 near Shotwell Road in the Clayton city limits.

Local and federal plainclothes officers were closely monitoring a confidential informant working with them. The informant had scheduled a meeting in a business parking lot to buy a handgun and a quantity of methamphetamines.  When the informant arrived in the parking lot, he was robbed at gunpoint of his cash he had to purchase the meth and firearm.

The suspect, 22 year-old Javon Ralique Valentine of Wendell, reportedly jumped in a getaway car driven by 23 year-old Tyriq Tyquan Daly of Raleigh and they sped away from the scene.  Undercover officers immediately stopped the fleeing vehicle. Valentine and Daly fled on foot but were apprehended a short time later.

Valentine was held in the Johnston County Jail under a $1 million bond charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony conspiracy and ten counts of trafficking methamphetamines.  Daly was held under a $200,000 bond charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony conspiracy.

Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell said the gun used by Valentine during the robbery had been reported stolen in Durham.

No additional details were released.
