Teen Accused Of Switching Barcodes On Items At Walmart

An 18 year-old girl was arrested Wednesday night at the Smithfield Walmart.  Smithfield Police said they were dispatched to the business around 8:15pm after a customer reportedly switched bar codes on more expensive merchandise with barcodes from lesser expensive items that had been marked down for quick sale.

Kayla Denise Butler of E. Anderson Street, Selma was confronted by Walmart loss prevention after she reportedly used the self check out register to make the transactions.

Police charged Butler with obtaining property by false pretenses, resisting a public officer, and trespassing. She was given a $21,000 bond.
