An 18 year-old has been arrested in one of the first reported thefts of legally grown hemp from a farm field in Johnston County.
Around 12:30pm last Thursday, deputies responded to a suspicious person in a hemp field on Wendell Road. Officers arrived and located 18 year-old Najae Davonte Riley of Raleigh with two bags containing a total of 8.8 pounds of hemp he had allegedly just stolen.
Deputies said Riley was caught before he could leave the scene with the stolen hemp. While being processed into the Johnston County Jail, detention officers reportedly found two counterfeit $100 bills in his possession.
Riley was charged with felony larceny, felony possession of marijuana, conspiracy to sell or deliver a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell or deliver a controlled substance and possession of counterfeit currency.
Riley was held under a $50,000 bond on the larceny and drug possession charges. He was given an additional $10,000 bond for the counterfeit currency charge.
