Teenager Arrested Following High Speed Chase

A teenager driver was arrested by Johnston County deputies following a brief high speed chase Friday night in northern Johnston County.

At 10:12pm, a SAFE Team deputy was monitoring traffic on Highway 231 near Richardson Road and clocked a Toyota pickup speeding 70 mph in a 55 mph zone.  The deputy attempted to stop the truck but the driver accelerated.  The chase reached speeds of nearly 100 mph before the driver stopped after approximately three miles.

Leonardo Ronaldo Flores, 19, of the 12000 block of Highway 96 North, Zebulon was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, speeding, driving after consuming under age 21 and reckless driving.   Flores was held on a $15,000 secured bond.

The Toyota truck he was operating was seized under the NC Run and You’re Done Law.
