Town Councilman Files For Mayor

The filing period for municipal offices in Johnston County opened at Noon on Friday, July 2nd, with the exception of the Town of Smithfield.

Selma
Selma Town Councilman Byron McAllister filed Friday for Mayor. McAllister said Selma is growing but the town is falling behind in keeping up with demands brought on by residential and commercial development.

“We’ve got a lot going on in Selma. It’s time for us to make some serious changes,” McAllister said at the Johnston County Board of Elections Office.

The seat of incumbent Mayor Cheryl Oliver and council members Jackie Lacy and Ann Williams are up for election this year.

Clayton
Incumbent Clayton Town Councilman Michael Grannis filed for reelection today. There are three council seats are up for election in 2021. The seats are currently held by Mr. Grannis, Art Holder and Bobby Bunn.

Archer Lodge
In Archer Lodge, council seats held by Teresa Bruton and Mark Wilson are up for election.

Incumbent Archer Lodge Town Councilman Mark B. Wilson filed Friday afternoon for his fourth term.

The filing period for the Towns of Archer Lodge, Benson, Clayton, Four Oaks, Kenly, Micro, Pine Level, Princeton, Selma, and Wilson’s Mills runs from noon Friday, July 2nd to noon Friday, July 16th. The Whitley Heights Sanitary District commissioner race will also follow the same schedule. Elections will take place in November.

The Town of Smithfield has district council contests. Initially their filing period was schedule to begin July 26th but has been postponed to at least December 6, 2021. If redistricting isn’t completed in time, the filing period could be pushed to January 3, 2022. Smithfield elections will take place in March 2022.

  1. I do know Mr McAllister has shown stand up character from my interactions with him and he regularly visits all the assorted town departments. When I worked with him in Selma’s Parent teacher org he was very much into doing things by the book, I don’t know what happened with the prior town manager, however I do know from my interactions with Mr. McAllister that he acted in what he thought would be the best interest of the Town of Selma.
