The Highway Patrol has released the name of a Four Oaks man killed in a violent two vehicle accident Friday night on Devil’s Racetrack Road.
Around 8:15pm, troopers said 23 year-old Stephan Dean of Four Oaks was operating a car on dirt path and failed to stop for a stop sign at Devil’s Racetrack Road. As the car entered the highway it was struck instantly in the passenger side by a GMC truck driven by Tracy Whitley, 26, of Four Oaks. Both vehicles came to rest off the roadway in the front yard of a residence.
A passenger in Dean’s car, Jeremy Charbanneau, 26, of Four Oaks died at the scene from his injuries.
Dean was rushed to Wake Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. He was charged with driving while impaired. Additional charges are expected.
Whitley sustained minor injuries. Troopers said Whitley did not have time to apply the brakes before impact. Photos by John Payne
