Troopers Release Name Of Driver Killed In I-95 Crash

Tractor Trailer Driver Charged With Death By Motor Vehicle

BENSON – The State Highway Patrol has released the name of a driver killed in a collision last week on Interstate 95 near Benson.  The collision was reported at 2:05am on August 18th.

Troopers said Tolulope Itunuola Idowu, 48, of Springdale, Maryland was traveling southbound on I-95, well-below the posted speed limit, when her 2019 Toyota SUV was hit from behind by a tractor trailer.  The impact forced the Toyota into the median guardrail where it came to rest facing northbound in the southbound lane.  Idowu died at the scene as a result of her injuries.

Her two children, ages 7 and 17, were asleep in the back seat when the crash occurred.  They sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and were hospitalized at WakeMed.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Tyler Matthew Kreiser, 25, of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.  According to an accident report by Trooper D.P. Tucker, Kreiser was traveling at an estimated 65 miles per hour at the time his 2015 Kenworth ran into the rear of the Toyota which was traveling at approximately 24 miles per hour.   The posted speed limit is 65mph.

Kreiser was hauling green beans from Pennsylvania to South Carolina at the time of the early morning collision.

Authorities are still investigating why Idowu was traveling at a reduced speed on the interstate.
