Troopers Release Name Of NC 39 Crash Victim

ZEBULON – The State Highway Patrol has released the name of a man who died in a traffic accident at 4:26pm Thursday on NC Highway 39 North at Earpsboro Road in northern Johnston County.

The victim has been identified as 28 year-old Michael Lynn Mozingo. He was operating a black Johnway moped. Mozingo made a wide turn from Earpsboro Road onto NC Highway 39 to travel south but crossed the centerline and was struck by a northbound Freightliner tractor trailer driven by Walter Davis.

Mozingo was wearing a helmet. He died at the scene from his injuries. The Highway Patrol said impairment was not suspected.

Davis was evaluated at the scene by Johnston County EMS.

No charges were filed.

Highway 39 was closed until approximately 7:00pm before reopening to traffic.

    Prayers for the victim’s family and the truck driver who will now have to live with this the rest of his life, even though he appears to have done nothing wrong.

    • I’ll do what please. I am calling out the wasteful spending of taxpayer money on a police officer and 60k dollar suv who is clearly MANY MILES out of jurisdiction. Stay classy, pal.
