The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office SAFE Team arrested two people at a license checkpoint. SAFE Team deputies had set up the checkpoint Tuesday afternoon on Earpsboro Road in northern Johnston County.
Around 4:00pm, deputies said a driver stopped and officers immediately detected an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. Regelio Arias Sanchez, 35, of Little Creek Road, Zebulon was arrested and charged with driving while impaired. Sanchez registered 0.23 on the Breathalyzer, nearly three times higher than the legal limit of 0.08 in NC.
Officers seized the Chevy Camaro he was operating. Sanchez was jailed under a $2,500 bond.
A short time later, a car stopped at the checkpoint and a strong odor of marijuana was reportedly coming from that vehicle.
During a search of the car, suspected marijuana, crack cocaine and powder cocaine were allegedly found. Jovon Lamont Curtis, 34, of Cedar Lake Drive, Middlesex was charged with several drug violations and confined in the Johnston County Jail under a $5,000 bond.
