Two people were arrested early Monday outside a Johnston County convenience store. Around 4:10am, Johnston County deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a convenience store near McGee’s Crossroads that had not yet opened for business.
Officers arrived and found two people asleep inside the vehicle. In plain sight, deputies said they saw marijuana in the laps of both men.
The sleeping suspects were awakened and detained. During a search of the car, 61 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and Zanax pills were allegedly found.
The driver, Jason Curtis Matthews, 21, of Dunn and the passenger, Logan David Ritchie, 21, of Angier were charged with felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, felony possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.
Matthews was jailed under a $30,000 bond. Ritchie was given a $50,000 bond plus an additional $100 bail on a failure to appear warrant for a charge of driving on a revoked license.
