Two Charged In Murder Of Missing Woman

The Nash County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two people in the death of a missing Raleigh woman last seen on May 16th in Spring Hope.

The remains of 51 year-old Sarah Denise Patterson were discovered Wednesday in a shallow grave off West Old Spring Hope Road. Her 2010 Honda Accord was located several miles away on Pleasant Road in Edgecombe County.

Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone said investigators have charged Cleavon Williams, 44, of Spring Hope, Patterson’s nephew, with first-degree murder. Williams is being held in the Nash County Detention Center without bond.

April June Smith, 41, of Spring Hope has been charged with accessory after the fact of murder. Smith was released after posting a $25,0000 bond.

Authorities have not released a motive or said how Patterson died.

“My heart goes out to the family that anyone’s life would be ended like this,” said Sheriff Keith Stone. “It’s very disturbing and as many years as I have been in law enforcement to see this type of carnage is heartbreaking.”

Cleavon Williams had his first court appearance this morning (Thursday) in Nashville District Court.
