Police arrested two men hours after they allegedly broke into a Smithfield home while a woman and her two children were inside.
Smithfield Police said the home invasion was reported at 10:10am Friday, May 10th in the 300 block of North 5th Street. The 28 year-old female victim said she was at home with her two small children when she heard a knock on the door. She saw two men standing outside but didn’t recognize them and didn’t answer the door. Moments later, the victim said she heard a noise inside her home and it was the two men. She ran to a neighbors home with her two children and called for help.
The suspects had fled with the victim’s Apple iPhone before police arrived.
About three hours later, an officer spotted the suspects on E. Lee Street and arrested them without further incident. The stolen iPhone was also located and recovered.
Dayon Shikel Surrett, 20, of Ray Drive, Smithfield and Eric Darrell Peacock, 30, of Hines Drive, Four Oaks were both charged with felony breaking and entering and felony larceny. Bonds for both men was set at $30,000.
