Update: Smithfield Police Identify Homicide Victim

UPDATE 4:00PM : Smithfield Police have confirmed the shooting victim died at the hospital as the result of their injuries. The victim has been identified as 60 year-old Frank Blackshell of Smithfield.

Police confirmed they are working on several leads in the case, which is now a homicide investigation.

SMITHFIELD – One person was critically injured after multiple shots were fired into a Smithfield home early-Saturday morning.

Around 5:15am, officers were dispatched to the area of Harris and Collier Streets for a report of multiple shots being fired. Police arrived and discovered multiple rounds had been fired into a residence.

One individual was struck by the gunfire and was in critical condition when transported to the hospital, according to Police Chief Keith Powell. The suspect or suspects fled the scene before police arrived.
