WILSON’S MILLS – After an extensive investigation and search by multiple law enforcement agencies in several states a suspect in a 2014 sexual assault and unrelated 2015 Johnston County attempted robbery has been captured.
Taruez M. Everette, age 26, was recently apprehended in Essex County, Massachusetts. Everette was held on multiple arrest warrants, including one for sexual assault on a minor that occurred approximately 8 years ago in Wilson’s Mills.
The Wilson’s Mills Police Department investigated the 2014 case involving a disclosure by a child of the offense and obtained the warrants. The US Marshals Service located Mr. Everette in Massachusetts
The NC State Bureau of Investigation provided assistance and transportation by air to Wilson’s Mills police officers who transported Everette back to North Carolina May 5.
Smithfield Police also filed charges against Everette for a 2015 robbery case. On November 1, 2015, officers responded to the Hookah House Bar & Lounge on Venture Drive for a disturbance. Police cleared the disturbance and were still in the area when they were called to return a second time for a fight in progress.
Smithfield Police Chief Keith Powell said the victim was punched repeated and a necklace was snatched off their neck. The suspect, Taruez Everette, went to a vehicle and retrieved a rifle and pointed it at the victim but never fired. Everette dropped the rifle and fled as police officers arrived. Warrants were obtained after the incident for attempted common law robbery and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Everette was confined in the Johnston County Jail under a $750,000 secured bond.
