Van Slams Into Tree

SMITHFIELD – The State Highway Patrol is investigating a single vehicle crash Wednesday morning on Swift Creek Road near Cleveland Road.

A van ran off the roadway to the right, overcorrected, then crossed the centerline and slammed head on into a tree. Two people were in the van. Both sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The Wilson’s Mills Fire Department had to extricate the driver who was severely pinned.

A Life Flight helicopter was dispatched to the scene but canceled before it arrived. Both accident victims were transported by Johnston County EMS to the hospital.

It was raining at the time of the accident. The driver told troopers the windshield wipers were not working properly, which likely contributed to the collision.

  1. Per State Law, I get my vehicles inspected annually, pay my taxes and make sure my autos are in good shape to keep my family safe and others on the road safe as well. Doesn’t look like it here to me.

    • You tell ’em KT6596. If only they and the rest of the world could follow in your great wisdom and clear leadership as a citizen.

  2. Excuse me @kt6596 my mother always told me “If you don’t have anything nice to say Don’t say nothing at all!! Everyone is in or going through a different situations so keep your opinion to yourself if you don’t have anything positive to say . “ RESPECTFULLY”!!!.
