Vehicle Linked To Double Homicide Located In Smithfield

SMITHFIELD – A car believed to be connected to a double murder in Fayetteville was located Monday afternoon in the Smithfield city limits.

Around 2:00pm, a car was located beside a home in the 800 block of Blount Street. The vehicle was reportedly linked to a double shooting Monday morning in the 5700 block of Aftonshire Drive in Fayetteville.

Smithfield Police, Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Clayton Police K-9, and the NC SBI conducted a manhunt for the suspect Monday afternoon in the East Smithfield area. The manhunt was eventually called off.

For a brief period of time, Johnston Community College was placed on lockdown. The lockdown was lifted around 3:45pm.

Smithfield Police referred all questions about the incident to Fayetteville Police. Fayetteville Police did not disclose any information about the suspect or the car located in East Smithfield.

At 12:14am Monday, Fayetteville Police were dispatched to Aftonshire Drive after a homeowner returned home and found an adult male inside his residence unresponsive. The victim, Marchellous Latrel Braddy, 33, of Raeford, NC was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers located a second victim in the yard. They were also pronounced dead at the scene. That person was identified as Nakea Latasha Brooks, 27, of Fayetteville.

The two victims were acquainted but Fayetteville Police said this was not a murder suicide and the incident does not appear to be a random act.
