Vehicles Intentionally Crashed Head-On Then Set On Fire, JCSO Says

Firefighters and law enforcement officers found two vehicles wrecked head-on then set on fire Wednesday afternoon.   Authorities said both acts were intentional.

Around 1:45pm, emergency crews responded to the 12700 block of Raleigh Road outside of Benson.

Authorities said they found a Mercury Sable passenger car and GMC Sierra pickup truck had been wrecked head-on while on private property.  Afterwards both vehicles were set on fire and burned.  The truck and car had a combined value of $15,000. They were destroyed.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office arrested 50 year-old Linda Cox Rollins of Grabtown Road, Smithfield on a felony count of burning personal property.    Detective Lt. Don Pate said the incident was intentional and was possibly committed for insurance reasons.  Lt. Pate said more charges are possible.

Rollins was held in the Johnston County Jail under a $20,000 bond.

No injuries were reported.
