Victim Seriously Injured At Benson Bar

An arrest has been made in connection with an assault at a Benson club earlier this month that left the victim with serious injuries.

A 40 year-old Benson man was at Pitchers Bar at 485 Surles Road around 3:00am on May 11th when he was reportedly assaulted.  The victim sustained a broken jaw in two places and was transported to Wake Medical Center where he underwent surgery.

Johnston County deputies said they reviewed video surveillance footage which showed the assault.  The suspect allegedly punched the victim causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect then hit the victim several more times while he was on the ground then walked away.

Deputies were unable to identify the suspect at the time of the incidentt but following an investigation identified the suspect as 29 year-old Gary Clay Reynolds Jr. of Memory Lane, Benson.  Reynolds was arrested Tuesday by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and charged with felony assault inflicting serious injury.  A motive for the assault was not disclosed.
