A man wanted by law enforcement agencies in two states was arrested in Smithfield after reportedly being caught shoplifting. Smithfield Police said they were called to Walmart at 1299 North Brightleaf Boulevard at 1:18pm Saturday.
A loss prevention officer allegedly observed a man shoplift a pair of tennis shoes valued at $19.98 and attempt to leave. Police arrived and began questioning the suspect who initially provided a fictitious name. After learning his real identity, police said a routine background check revealed 58 year-old Anthony Session of Charlottesville, Virginia was wanted by agencies in Virginia and North Carolina.
Session was wanted by law enforcement in Chesapeake, Virginia for defrauding an innkeeper, Cumberland County NC for unauthorized use of a vehicle, Lee County NC for felony probation violation, and Moore County NC for defrauding an innkeeper. Session was also served with two criminal summons out of Fayetteville.
Session was charged by Smithfield Police with shoplifting and resisting a public officer. He was held in the Johnston County Jail without bond.
