Wake County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested an armed man who barricaded himself inside a Fuquay-Varina home for several hours earlier today.
Around 1:30 this afternoon, deputies responded to 3013 S. Main Street for a call of shots fired in the area. When deputies entered the residence they observed a man was pointing a weapon in their direction.
The man, later identified as 26-year-old Michael Leslie Wilson, of Glenfield, Georgia, told deputies he would not surrender peacefully.
Additional units were called to setup a perimeter and to begin negotiations.
Wake County Sheriff Gerald Baker took part in the negotiating efforts. Knowing that Wilson was armed, the WCSO’s Tactical Response Team (TRT) deployed small gas canisters in the home to safely end the standoff.
Wilson faces one count of assault on a law enforcement officer by pointing a gun. Additional charges are pending. Wilson will also undergo a mental health evaluation. He is currently being held in the Wake County Detention Center.
