Wilson County Bridge Will Be Rebuilt

WILSON – A pre-World War II bridge that carries U.S. 117 over a CSX Corp. railroad track on the outskirts of Wilson will be replaced.

The U.S. 117 bridge near its junction with U.S. 264 in Wilson County is scheduled to close at 7:00am Monday, May 2 to allow for its demolition, then construction of a new bridge. The road is scheduled to reopen in April 2023.

The detour will send drivers onto Frank Price Church Road, Old Black Creek Road and U.S. 264, returning to US. 117.

The bridge was built in 1922 and upgraded (but not replaced) in 1940. It has reached the end of its useful life.

W.C. English Inc. of Lynchburg, Va., won the nearly $3.9 million contract last year from the N.C. Department of Transportation.
