West Johnston High junior Caitlyn Pharis will represent Johnston County for dance at the Governor’s School auditions on Feb. 18.

Pharis was nominated by her dance teacher, Cheri Crabtree.  The Governor’s School dance curriculum embraces and expresses 20th and 21st century theories through daily modern technique classes, a survey of recent pioneers, and the integration of self-expression and abstraction through improvisation, composition, and choreography.

The program is the oldest statewide summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students in the nation. It is open to rising seniors only, and only between 35 and 40 percent of nominees are accepted into the program.
