Woman Arrested, Accused Of Firing Gun At Vehicle

SMITHFIELD – A 27 year-old Smithfield woman was arrested Monday one day after police said she fired a gun into an occupied vehicle.  Shakeema Shantell Amerson of Blount Street, Smithfield was charged with three felony counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property.

At 3:23am Sunday, Smithfield Police said they were initially dispatched to a minor motor vehicle accident in the 900 block of East Lee Street.  During their investigation, officers reportedly learned a 26 year-old Clayton woman was being pursued in a vehicle by Amerson and shots were fired into the victim’s vehicle.  The victim sustained minor injuries from the collision but not from the gunfire, police said.

Police obtained warrants for Amerson’s arrest and she turned herself in at the Johnston County Courthouse.  She was later released on bail.

Captain R. Sheppard said the incident was not random and the victim and suspect knew one another.
