Woman Arrested After Crashing Pickup Into Tree

Selma Police arrested the driver of a pickup truck that slammed head-on into a tree Tuesday night.  Selma Police and Johnston County EMS responded to the 9:54pm accident on Watson Street near Webb Street.

Police said Katherine Jean Holmes, 27, of Red Maple Court, Kenly was traveling on Webb Street in a 2006 Ford F-150 and attempted to make a left turn onto Watson Street but was traveling too fast.  The truck ran off the roadway and into the front yard of a home, striking a tree.

Paramedics checked out the driver at the scene but she declined transport to the hospital.

Holmes reportedly told police the truck hydroplaned but officers said there was no standing water in the roadway.  She allegedly admitted to drinking two beers two hours before the accident.

Holmes later registered 0.10 on the Breathalyzer, above the legal limit of 0.08.

She was charged with driving while impaired, failure to maintain lane control and a seat belt violation.  A magistrate set bail at $1,500.  The F-150 was totaled in the collision.
