Woman Arrested After Selling Stolen Lawnmower Online

A suspect has been charged with stealing her neighbor’s riding lawnmower after photos of the stolen mower reportedly appeared on social media.

Heather Ann Francis, 35, of the 3000 block of Highway 70-A, Selma was arrested Tuesday by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and charged with larceny and obtaining property by false pretenses.

On April 13th, a 79 year-old Selma woman reported a Craftsman riding lawnmower had been stolen from a shelter at her home in the 3000 block of Highway 70-A.  A short time after the theft, photos of the stolen lawnmower appeared on several community Facebook pages that listed the stolen mower for sale.

Detectives conducted a search warrant on Francis’ Facebook account and located the photos which were reportedly taken under the victim’s own shelter before the mower was stolen.

Francis was jailed under a $5,000 bond. The stolen mower has not been recovered.
