A felony charge has been filed against a Johnston County woman who reportedly stole the same horse twice. The horse remains missing.
In July, deputies and state troopers responded to Rains Crossroads Road outside of Princeton for a report of two horses in the roadway. The owner was notified and upon arriving at home discovered his fence had been cut. He told officers he had 3 horses in his pasture and that one was missing.
Deputies later found the missing horse in a pasture near Four Oaks. Authorities said no charges were filed against the person who reportedly had possession of the animal, Courtney Elizabeth Mitchell, 26, of the 6800 block of Devil’s Racetrack Road, because it was a civil issue. The horse was returned to its owner on Rains Crossroads Road.
Recently the same horse was stolen a second time. Sheriff’s detectives said they determined Mitchell was behind the second theft and arrested her Monday on a felony charge of larceny of a horse. Detectives said the horse is still missing but is still believed to be in the local area. A photo or description of the horse was not released.
