A Johnston County woman who hired a taxi driver to transport her 82 miles from Mebane to Four Oaks was arrested Tuesday night.
Troubles for 36 year-old Michelle Renee Ivey of Four Oaks became worse when officers reportedly found methamphetamine in her possession after being booked into the Johnston County Jail.
Around 6:00pm deputies were called to a home in the 1100 block of US 701 South after Ivey arrived at her destination but then told the taxi driver she didn’t have the $165 to pay the fare. The driver for Majesty Transportation of Mebane called deputies who arrested Ivey for defrauding a taxi driver.
While being processed into jail on the misdemeanor charge, officers reportedly found suspected methamphetamine in her possession.
Ivey was subsequently charged with felony possession of a controlled substance in jail. She was also served with a warrant for failing to appear in court on a prior charge of violating a court order.
Bail was set at $10,000 on the drug charge, $1,000 for the taxi fraud charge, and $575 for the failure to appear warrant. Altogether, Ivey’s total bond was $11,575.
