SMITHFIELD – A woman was injured by two suspects during a purse snatching incident at a Smithfield business. Smithfield Police said it occurred at 2:37pm Sunday inside the Polo Ralph Lauren Factory Store on Outlet Center Drive.
The 71 year-old victim, who is from South Carolina, was standing in line when two suspects approached her. One suspect grabbed her purse and attempted to snatch it off her arm. When she began to struggle to hold onto her purse, the second suspect pushed her to the floor. The suspects then fled with the stolen purse in a white SUV on Outlet Center Drive headed towards Selma.
Police said the suspects made away with her handbag, wallet, cash, debit and credit cards, cell phone, and prescription sunglasses.
The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
