Woman Knew About Abuse But Failed To Report It, JCSO Alleges

BENSON – The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) alleges a Benson-area resident knew about the alleged sexual abuse of a juvenile female but failed to report it.

Candice Barefoot Tart, 39, of Raynor Road, Benson was arrested June 10, 2022 by sheriff’s investigators and charged with a single felony count of negligent child abuse causing serious physical injury.

McLamb was arrested February 24, 2022 by the JCSO and charged with statutory rape of a child, statutory sex offense with a child by an adult, and indecent liberties with a minor.

McLamb remains in the Johnston County Jail under a $2 million bond. Tart was given a $10,000 bond.
