A tanker truck hauling 8,700 gallons of gasoline overturned on its side Monday afternoon near Clayton. The accident was reported on Guy Road near Winston Road.
The tanker ran off the roadway on the right onto the soft shoulder and overturned on its side. Fortunately, no fuel spilled from the tanker and the driver escaped without injury.
Hundreds of people were forced to find an alternate route to their homes due to the road closure.
Dozens of emergency vehicles remained on the scene until 11:30pm until the roadway was fully reopened. The Clayton Fire Department was assisted by a foam truck that responded from the Selma Fire Department.
