BENSON – A head-on crash near Benson killed one driver and critically injured another. The accident happened at 10:52pm Thursday, April 25 on NC Highway 50 South near Holly Grove Road, in the Meadow community.
The State Highway Patrol said Mary Alice Proulx, 24, of Raleigh was operating a 2000 Toyota Camry northbound on Highway 50 when she crossed the centerline and struck a 2011 Honda Accord traveling southbound that was driven by Jorge Alfredo Trejo Rodriguez, 45, of Benson.
Proulx was pronounced deceased at the scene. Rodriguez was rushed to Wake Medical Center with critical injuries.
Highway Patrol Sergeant N.D. White said the collision remains under investigation. Speed is not a contributing factor. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
