Update: Smithfield Teen Killed In Selma Shooting

UPDATE 5:00PM – Selma Police have identified the victims of Saturday night’s shooting on W. Preston Street. Malik Muhammed Shepard, 19, of Smithfield was killed.  Tyquan Kamil Dublin, 21, of Smithfield was injured.   No additional information was released.


SELMA – The NC State Bureau of Investigation is assisting local authorities investigate an overnight double shooting that left one person dead and another injured.

Selma Police said it happened just after 11:00pm Saturday in the 500 block of W. Preston Street near S. Green Street.

Officers were dispatched to a report of multiple shots being fired near the intersection. When they arrived they found a 19 year-old and 21 year-old suffering from gunshot wounds.

The 19 year-old victim died from their injuries. The 21 year-old was rushed to the hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries. Police have not released the names of the victims.

Selma Police Chief W.M. Thomas said a car was also struck by the bullets.

The suspect or suspects fled from the scene before officers arrived.
