1 Killed, 2 Injured In Four Oaks Crash

The NC Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal collision between a car and pickup truck. The crash was reported around 8:15pm Friday in the 6400 block of Devil’s Racetrack Road near Strickland’s Crossroads south of Four Oaks.

According to troopers, a white passenger car was operating recklessly on a private dirt path leading from Howell Woods Sand and Gravel at 6475 Devil’s Racetrack Road, which had already closed for the day.

The driver of the car failed to stop for a stop sign at Devil’s Racetrack Road and was struck in the passenger side by a gold GMC pickup traveling southbound.

Both vehicles left the roadway and came to rest in the front yard of a residence.

Troopers said two people were in the car. The male driver was seriously injured and rushed to the hospital. The male passenger died at the scene.

The operator of the pickup truck sustained only minor injuries.

Investigators don’t know why the driver of the car failed to stop at the stop sign but suspect alcohol and reckless driving were contributing factors. Troopers said the driver of the truck didn’t have a chance to apply his brakes before impact.

The names of those involved was not immediately released. JoCoReport.com Photos
