1 Person Injured In Downtown Smithfield Car Accident

One person received minor injuries resulting from a three car accident in Downtown Smithfield Monday afternoon. Smithfield Police said the accident was reported at 4:08pm at the intersection of Market Street and Fourth Street.

Police said a 2003 Ford SUV driven by Nancy Thompson Cabe, 76, of Fuquay Varina was stopped for a red light on Market Street at the intersection. A 2013 Toyota passenger car driven by Mayra Yamileth Reyes-Reyes, 28, of Selma was also stopped behind Cabe.  Police said a third vehicle, a 2006 Mazda driven by Allyson Grace Cooke, 28, of Elm City failed to stop and rear-ended the Toyota at an estimated 20 miles per hour. The Toyota was then pushed into the back of the Ford SUV. According to an accident report there were no skid marks prior to the impact.

Reyes-Reyes was injured in the accident but declined transport by EMS to the hospital. Cabe and Cooke were not injured.

Damage to the Ford was estimated by police at $600, damage to the Toyota at $1,500 and damage to the Mazda at $3,000.

Cooke was cited by Officer K.P. Smith with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
