The NC Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of a single vehicle accident that claimed the life of a 46 year-old woman. The wreck was discovered Tuesday on Old Grantham Road in southern Wayne County.
For an unknown reason, the driver, Mary Ann Flake of Mt Olive drove off the roadway and after traveling through two ditches and across a yard, collided with an unoccupied house. She was not wearing a seat belt.
The house was under contract to be sold at the time. No one was inside the home when it was struck. Authorities are also working to determine exactly when the accident occurred.
