The State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal car accident today (Thursday) that claimed the life of a Benson man. The single vehicle collision happened on Raleigh Road just north of Sanders Road.
Terry Wayne Fournier, 57, of Benson was killed in the crash. Trooper D.L. Braswell said Fournier was traveling southbound on Raleigh Road around 10:30am when his 2002 Honda Civic ran off the road to the right and into a large ditch. The vehicle overturned on its roof. The victim died at the scene. The accident occurred approximately four miles away from his home.
A witness told troopers Fournier was traveling around 45mph at the time of the crash. The victim was wearing a seat belt. Authorities said alcohol was not a contributing factor.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Cleveland Fire Department, Johnston County EMS and Johnston County Medical Examiner responded to the scene.
