An 11 year-old boy lost his life in a tragic accident at a rural Johnston County intersection Saturday night.
The two vehicle collision was reported at 8:51pm on Highway 231 at Applewhite Road.
Authorities said Samantha Scott, 27, of Wendell was unfamiliar with the area and drove through a stop sign at the intersection into the path of an oncoming pickup truck.
After the impact both vehicles overturned off the roadway.
Emergency responders attempted life saving measures for more than an hour on her son, Aaron Bryant, but he died at the scene. Aaron was wearing a seat belt and sitting in the right rear seat of his mother’s silver Mitsubishi. Investigators said all the airbags on the vehicle deployed but it wasn’t enough to prevent the young child from sustaining fatal injuries.
Scott was taken to Wake Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Dodge pickup truck, Leann Simmons, and a passenger were not injured.
The NC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. On Sunday, troopers said after consulting with the Johnston County District Attorney’s Office that no charges against Scott are anticipated. Photos by John Payne
