CLAYTON – A massive fire heavily damaged a home on Ashley Woods Court, off Neuse River Parkway, in the Flowers Plantation community.
The fire was reported at 6:47pm Friday. The first fire trucks were on the scene in 3-1/2 minutes but flames were also coming out the windows of the large house.
A 15 year-old girl and her friend were the first to spot a small fire on the porch of a residence across the street. They ran to the burning home to alert the occupants. Emerson Hartley and her friend kicked the screened-in porch to allow a dog and cat to escape.
North Side Fire, Clayton Fire, and Corinth Holders Fire personnel responded and battled the blaze before bringing it under control.
Firefighters prevented an adjacent home from burning, although the vinyl siding on the neighbor’s home melted.
Flowers Plantation management offered the displaced woman and her daughter a nearby fully furnished apartment. The Red Cross responded and provided relief. Neighbors arrived and offered to assist the victim in any way they could.
The Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
Flowers houses are so close together, it’s amazing that the neighbors didn’t catch too.
The girls were heroes. Thank God no one was injured.
You go girls!!!
Way to go! These girls are heros.
