WILSON’S MILLS – Three Clayton High School students survived a high speed crash after a 15 year-old driver reportedly fled from Wilson’s Mills Police.
Around 2:15am today (Tuesday), a Wilson’s Mills police officer attempted to stop the driver of a Lexus for failing to stop for a stop sign at West Olive Road and US 70 Business.
The driver initially stopped on nearby Sadisco Road. However, as the officer was approaching the driver side of the car, the vehicle sped away. The chase quickly reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, Police Chief A.Z. Williams said.
As the Lexus approached one of several sharp curves on Strickland Road, the vehicle ran off the roadway, struck a ditch, and overturned several times. The Lexus came to rest approximately 600 feet from the initial point of impact with the ditch.
The driver, a 15 year-old male juvenile, was transported to Johnston Health in Clayton to be evaluated at the request of his father who responded to the scene.
A 17 year-old front seat passenger was ejected from the vehicle as it overturned. He was transported to Wake Med in Raleigh for complaints of leg and head pain.
A 15 year-old rear seat passenger, refused transport to the hospital. He was released to his mother at the scene.
Chief Williams said there were no signs of impairment or drugs at the scene.
The 15 year-old driver reportedly fled because he was underage and did not have a license
“It’s a miracle no one was more seriously injured. God was certainly watching. People need to understand that speed really does kill,” Chief Williams said.
Polcie said all three juveniles involved in the crash are students at Clayton High School.
The 15 year-old driver will face charges in juvenile court including fleeing to elude and reckless driving.
Idiots.
Darwin was sleeping on this one.
Charge the driver. Convict the driver and allow him or her to serve their sentence. TEACH them a lesson. Your actions have consequences!!!
Who needs drugs when you are 15 ?
You’re high on life right ? What are they doing out at 2:15 am ?
Well at least they will get the slap on the hand so the next time they can kill themselves or someone else.
You got that right. A slap on the wrist is all that they will get. That’s a shame to because next time it probably will be someone’s life.
Can someone please explain to me why a 15 year old is out at 2:15am in the morning? Parents? Hello?
That what I want to know
Exactly! And not just 1 set of “parents” but 3 sets ?!?! The parents should be charged for child neglect in my opinion!
I still think a lot of chases (which usually end up with an accident or death) could be avoided if the officer could get the tag number and call down the highway for a backup to stop them. If someone is scared they’ll run..I just don’t feel a chase is worth a death(s). J/S
Call down the highway for a backup to stop them? They didn’t stop for the first officer, so what makes you think they would stop for the “backup” officer?
Getting a tag number is great, if you can get it at those speeds, but many times the car is stolen and a tag does nothing to identify the driver. The reality of it is, high speed chases have been glorified by video games and television. So many people think that they are capable of driving at high speeds and getting away. Nobody wants to take accountability and stop when they are caught doing wrong. It’s a learned behavior, either on their own or by a parent/family member.
These kids being out at 2:15 in the morning on a school night shows you the lack of respect and discipline that they should have. Just go anywhere though and you will see how kids act these days. There are plenty of good kids still out there, but these are an example of what society has become.
Zeroed In, I agree with each and every word you said but one other thing I would like to add, kids at 15 know right from wrong and had no cares about killing another driver or a LEO. WHERE ARE THE PARENTS?
You’re watching too much tv.
Preaching mostly. What about you?
Also I will add..as a juvenile..he should not be allowed to get his license until 18 years old..and continued behavior (without the chase), with a responsible parent should be implemented..Spare the rod, spoil the child!
I believe in order to get their drivers license everyone has to pass the N.C. driver training course. This is just the minimum of what it takes to be a “good driver”. I got my drivers license on my birthday, April 10, 1954. Driver training was unheard of back then. My training was with my grandfather’s 1947 Chevy and later my dad’s 1949 pickup. I never had an accident , just a few close calls. But for the Unseen Hand, I probably wouldn’t be composing this. I have found that having a determined sense of responsibility and calling up a prayer for safety before making the motor hum will really help to keep it “between the ditches”.That prayer can be as simple as when one prayers to receive that glorious salvation He gives. In case you don’t understand, get a Bible and turn to Roman’s chapter 10, verses 10-13. I hope these ramblings will help some younger ones to take seriously their responsibility to be a safe and happy driver.
First of all, as a retired DMV Examiner, you can walk in..apply..take a road test and walk out with a valid drivers license at 18..no permit..nothing, which I NEVER thought that was a good idea..and as far as getting a Bible, I have read several editions through upwards of 5 times…I’m a Christian through and through..and I guess I was just speaking from my heart which is FULL OF THE WORD OF GOD..BUT..in the end of the day..we’ve ALL got our death date and if you’re a juvenile outrunning the law at 2am, when you should be at home in bed, let’s ALL pray they are saved when death occurs.
3 of them LUCKY to still be alive.. Hopefully, this will be a big wake up call
Everyone is trying to blame parents or the police for chasing them… Stop blaming anyone except for the people who made that choice… THE DRIVER! I am glad no one got seriously injured, but even if the parents are amazing humans they still have free will and when they’re in fight or flight mode don’t always make the right decision.
I totally agree!!
