Two people were shot, one fatally, in a drive-by shooting this morning (Saturday) in the Cleveland community.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address in the 100 block of Blackthorne Court just off Cleveland Road around 1:00AM.

Deputies determined two people who had been standing outside a residence were shot. A 15 year-old male victim was killed. The name of the teenager has not been released, however JoCoReport has learned he was a student at Cleveland High School.

Johnston County school officials released a statement Saturday evening saying, “It is sad news to hear of the death of a 15 year old in the community.”

A man in his 20’s was shot in the foot. He was transported to Johnston Medical Center in Clayton for a non-life threatening wound.

Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell said several houses and vehicles were shot in the drive-by shooting. No other injuries were reported. A motive remains under investigation.

Law enforcement officers are searching for three black males last seen leaving the area in a beige Chevy Tahoe.
