SMITHFIELD – The Smithfield Town Council unanimously approved a request by developers to build a 168-unit apartment complex named Stadler Station.
Brown Investment Properties will construct seven buildings on a 13.17 acre vacant parcel of land on Peedin Road at Components Drive near Carolina Premium Outlets. The complex will include 84 one-bedroom units, 72 two-bedroom units, and 12 three-bedroom units.
The development will be served by two driveways, one aligned with Peedin Road and a second by Components Drive.
The site plan includes a clubhouse, approximately 31,686 square feet of open space, 271 standard parking spaces, and 10 handicap parking spaces.
Smithfield’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) allows a maximum density of 9.68 units per acre, however a density variance was approved in 2011 allowing a density up to 12.92 units per acre, according to a town report. The new apartment complex will average 12.75 dwelling units per acre.
The project was approved by a 6-to-0 vote during the Nov. 19 meeting of the Smithfield Town Council.
Will the apartments rent be based on income
Nope. It’s a new America. Go to work!
This is ******** nobody wants this
After the trainwreck of traffic Friday that area needs no more incentive for more traffic. A concert can let out and have traffic moving fairly steady, yet the Outlet and Town can’t plan efficiently for a high amount of shopping traffic. It was a disaster and very poor management on all involved. Do Better!
Well, if those apartments are built like the hotels near the outlet mall, they won’t be standing long…very poor construction. Bare, minimal building codes required these days!
A family member left pottery on Friday evening at 5pm and took almost 730 to get out of the parking lot and road. Very very sad and needs to be dealt with. It is a very bad road alot traffic and the exits are dangerous people pulling out in front of cars.
That’s why they call it Black Friday, if you’re going to fight the crowd you have to deal with the traffic. Was the small amount of savings worth the 2 1/2 hours of gas wasted in the parking lot?
so bad traffic one day a year and somehow it’s a terrible area to drive….I recommend you stay home on Black Friday. You’ll find the same problem in Garner and several other popular shopping areas.
