Seventeen fire departments from 4 counties battled a massive fire Saturday afternoon at Barefoot Pallet Company on Ira B. Tart Road. just outside of Dunn in the Plainview community in Sampson County.
A total of 79 firefighters from Sampson, Harnett, Johnston and Cumberland counties spent several hours working to bring the 10 acre fire under control. High winds and embers caused brush fires to ignite up to a half-mile away from the main fire scene.
Plainview Fire Chief Ken Jackson said 10 acres of brush and mulch 
burned as crews worked to extinguish the fire prevent it from spreading.
Several nearby homes were evacuated but none were damaged.
